Submissions
The submitted materials must be typed and double-spaced. A brief about the author note is required with reference to biographical data and major social and/or scientific achievements in the field of contribution. The note should be accompanied by a picture of the author along with its signature and contact information. E-mailed submissions are preferred and strongly encouraged; the text file should be in Microsoft Word format; pictures should be in jpeg, tiff or bmp format. In case of printed manuscripts, the latter should be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope to be considered or returned by mail. Please do NOT submit manuscripts by fax.
We also request that writers send an e-mail (preferred) or written query when first contacting The Green Cross Optimist with a story idea. Our editors will make every attempt to respond to all queries and manuscript submissions as soon as possible, but please allow at least two weeks for queries and two months for manuscripts. Unsolicited articles will not be accepted.
Unfamiliar terms, scientific language and jargon should be avoided or explained for the benefit of the reader. We also reserve the right to edit submitted material for grammar, brevity, clarity and tone.
Length of articles
Articles in The Green Cross Optimist generally run from 2,500 to 14,000 characters (no spaces).
Photographs and drawings
The Green Cross Optimist is very interested in photographs, drawings, or other materials that might be used to illustrate articles. We encourage digital images, which could be either scanned or taken with a digital camera. The resolution of the images should be not lower than 300 dots per inch and be in jpeg, tiff or bmp format. Other formats are not accepted. Color slides or glossy prints (either color or black and white) are acceptable. All such materials must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope or mailing tube with sufficient postage to be returned.
Withdrawal of manuscript from planned publication
Authors may withdraw a manuscript from the publication process provided written notice is given at least five weeks before the date of publication. At the same time, the editors reserve the right to withdraw from publication any previously accepted material.
